June Summer Hummer Report By Bug for the Committee
"Help! I need somebody.
Help! Not just anybody. Help!
You know I need someone. HELP!!!"
--The Beatles
Well folks as you are reading this it is less than
three weeks to the ABATE of Wisconsin Summer
Hummer. And even though technology marches ahead,
an event like this one does not run on
autopilot. It is a hands on manually operated
event that simply could not function without the
help and support of all of our volunteers. And so
in an effort to get slots filled before the
party starts, I am listing all departments at the
start of this report.
FRONT GATE: Do you like to meet and greet
your fellow bikers and perhaps answer some
questions they may have? It's way more fun
than Walmart. Contact Bill Roberge at
mailto:flstcbb@aol.com
or 608-769-5337.
TOXIC TAXI GARBAGE PICK-UP AND/OR SHOWER
BUILDING CLEAN UP: Not too hard. The shower
building is an easy hose and squeegee maintenance,
and garbage pick-up
lets you see what other campsites are up to.
Contact "Alpo" at mailto:powellalan@gmail.com
or
715-284-0525.
SELLING BAR CHIPS/STATEWIDE RAFFLE TICKETS AND
TREASURY: Contact Lisa Martin
at mailto:treas@abatewis.org
or 920-439-1849. A great
way to meet people as they purchase their
favorite beverage chips; you will also help to
increase Statewide Raffle sales.
GROUNDS HELP: Contact Pogie at mailto:lordsam@centurylink.net
or 715-577-0908. The
weather gods have assured me that we won't
be seeing any monsoons this year. They better not
lie to me because I know where they live.
EVENTS AND GAMES: Contact Sally at mailto:sdoxtator@charter.net
or 262-338-1444. Help
people as they perform ridiculous stunts for silly
recognition. IF YOUR REGION WANTS TO BE
INCLUDED IN THE REGIONAL POKER WALK YOU MUST CALL
SALLY NOW!
SECURITY: Speaks for itself. Must stay
sober during your shift. Contact Evan at
715-344-0394.
PRODUCT BOOTH: Are you a VIPR, or just a
good salesperson? Contact Betty at
mailto:products@abatewis.org
or 608-534-5253.
STATEWIDE POKER RUN DRAWING: Help people as
they draw their hands and empathize
with the many totally lame hands that some may
pull. Contact Karen at mailto:pokerrun@abatewis.org
or 920-360-2673
BARTENDING: Serving up icy cold beverages,
selling ice and dispensing general wisdom and
advice. (Although most of the advice should be
taken with a grain of salt) Contact Bug at
mailto:rwoodke1@charter.net
or 920-550-2238.
STAGE: Matt Graettinger at mailto:fungus525@centurytel.net
or 414-254-2349
Remember each shift is a mere 4 hours. Work one
shift get 3 drink tokens. Work 2 or more get
your choice of 9 drink tokens or a rally t-shirt.
Help your committee make this the best
Summer Hummer ever and have fun doing it.
Now that I've gotten the want ads out of
the way, here's a list of other happenings
on the grounds.
Music. Thursday features The DeRailers.
Friday it's Rat Sass opening followed by
Bobby Evans and The Alimony Blues Band.
Saturday's line up is The Dennis Peters Band
(formerly Circus) followed by Hyde. All great
biker style music for your enjoyment.
There is a Regional Poker Walk on the
grounds all weekend. Visit various Regional
campsites, sample their particular beverage
and vote for your favorite.
Twit's Famous Mingle Hunt. A type of
trivia
contest about ABATE. Everyone coming
through the gate gets a form. Test your
knowledge and meet new friends.
Fabulously hilarious games at various
times
all weekend.
A loud pipes contest.
A raffle to guess how long a motorcycle
without oil can run before seizing up.
A Bike Blessing followed by a ride to
The Highground Veterans Memorial.
Beer bobbing.
Winners of the 2011-12 Statewide Poker Run
and winners of The Statewide Raffle
announced Saturday between the bands.
Stupid Human Tricks wherein different
regions dress in their particular themed attire.
Yes, Virginia, we can be idiots. Be afraid,
be very afraid.
Plus vendors, ABATE products and general
brother and sisterhood with other members of
your slightly dysfunctional ABATE family. There
will also be fire rings and picnic tables
available on a first come first served basis.
Please no glass or cans in the fire rings and no
wood from outside the grounds. We don't want
to help spread ash borers or anything else.
So be sure to come to YOUR LAND on June
21st thru 24th to Dance With the Devil and Run
with the Wolves. We'll be looking for you.
