Meetings: 2nd Tuesday, 7:30 pm at
Kokopelli's: 6001 W. Madison St., West Allis
Two new members joined at our meeting this month,
welcome Mike and Cary. We had a good turnout
despite the great riding weather and a large local
race.
I will not be running for re-election in our 1A
election for Regional Representative on September
11th 2012. Anyone that is interested
can call or email me if they have any questions
about what it takes to run the region. So far no
one has stepped forward to say they will run and
we are getting close to election time. All of our
current officers listed above have said they will
stay on so the region almost runs itself. My best
guess is that an average of 10 -- 15 hours a
month volunteer time will take care of it. Some
months are busier than others due to events, lobby
day etc ...
We have many students in our area that could be
taught to share the road with motorcycles, but
cannot teach them all with our current volunteers.
If you think you might be interested in helping
out and observe a class to see if "Share the
Road" would be a good fit for you, contact
Holly or Kevin at the contact info above. The
bikers helping bikers clubhouse run in May raised
about $1100 for our Share the Road program, thanks
to all involved - especially Hoggie, Richie,
Smiley and Seven.
Our summer long Mason Dixon Dice run has started
and I have books available to purchase or sell for
$10 each. The run ends on August 18th
with a party at Witts End in Caledonia - Hwy G
just east of Hwy 94. There are 10 stops in each of
the following Counties -- Milwaukee,
Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha and Walworth. Thanks to
the participating establishments in Milwaukee
County, you can also purchase books from them:
Bottoms Up, Club Tap, Kokopelli's, Motor Bar
at HD Museum, Sheehan's, Silver Spring
House, Slick Willy's, Sobelman's,
Spirits and Steve's on Bluemound. For those
of you that are participating on the run, Spirits
burned down recently and that stop is now a free
stamp.
Our 3rd annual Sobelman's
fundraiser last month was a great success. They
donated $485 to ABATE out of that day's
sales. Stinky Gringo also donated $10, so $495
will be donated to our general funds from 1A.
Channel 12 was on location doing interviews so
anyone watching the channel 12 news that day saw
our motorcycle awareness message multiple times.
Great job Tiger and Dave Sobelman. Thank you to
all that participated.
Save the Date: September 8th there are
two events I want you to know about. The Fischer
House Ride out of the VA Hospital is a great cause
providing housing for Veteran families that have
someone in the VA Hospital but live too far away
to be near. We provide road guards for the ride,
so I am looking for at least four to five 1A
members to help with that. On the same day, the
Badgerland Riders are holding a fundraiser for our
Share the Road program. I am hoping we can work
out the timing so riders can do both events if
they so choose. Details on both rides will be
right here next month.
Our July meeting is on the 10th at
Kokopelli's: 6001 W. Madison St in West
Allis - 7:30 PM.
Our August meeting is on the 14th at
Kokopelli's: 6001 W. Madison St in West
Allis 7:30 PM
