“Yes” this is my opinion of my experience of Bikers in the Beltway. The story starts early Sunday morning of the 14th of May. Several ABATE members from northern regions spent the night at my house to avoid having to travel at 3 am. We met up with other members at 9 am and headed So0uth to Washington DC. Gary Klinker led the ride as he has been there before. Great job, Gary.
The first night was spent in Beaver Falls, PA. this was about 70% of the distance to ride. The next morning Gary took us into Washington DC to our hotel. There we net with ?ABATE and MRF members from around the country. It was really great to talk with people from different areas.
The next morning, we boarded the subway into the capitol area. Steve Panten had split people into different groups to see different legislators. A lot of the Senators and Legislators were unavailable, so we met with their aides. I did meet with Senator Ron Johnson and legislators Brian Steil and Scott Fitzgerald.
Everything went well and our concerns were met with agreement. You must remember though, they are politicians! The day ended with another ride in the subway back to the hotel. Thank goodness there were people that knew where to go or I would still be on the subway.
We talked that night and the people in the know were well satisfied with the day’s results. The next day we left early to beat the DC traffic. Another great job, Gary. We did have a bike breakdown in Dayton, Ohio and had to rent a truck to drive the bike back to Wisconsin.
The trip was well worth it and should be considered by everyone. There is strength in numbers.
