What is a patriot?
Webster’s dictionary simply defines a patriot as “one who loves his country.”
When the Thirteen Colonies won their freedom from England and decided to form the United States, they wanted a country where people could be free to live their lives like they wanted to, as long as they weren’t hurting anyone else. The Constitution was written to limit the power of the government in people’s lives. Amendments referred to the “Bill of Rights”, were added to make sure the people of the United States could have freedoms and opportunities unlike anywhere else in the world.
These freedoms we enjoy are what makes the United States the country it is and why people from other countries want to come here. These freedoms are sometimes called part of our national identity. Without them, the United States would not be the great country that it is.
As patriots, we work to preserve those freedoms. The ABATE of Wisconsin Junior Patriots program is a way of introducing you, our youth, into the ABATE family and organization. As Junior Patriots, you will learn how we go about preserving our freedoms to keep the United States a country we want to be part of.
