Dear “Cuz”,
I’ve been hearing a lot lately about some kind of Family Campout going on at ABATE Acres in August. Does that mean I can host my annual family reunion that weekend and bring cousin Bertha along? What does it cost, and does everyone need to be a member to come? I have 93 relatives that usually show up and I want to be sure there is enough room. Cousin Bertha usually brings along her exotic animals. Is that a problem?
Jeremy
Dear Jeremy,
So glad you asked that question. Once a year ABATE of Wisconsin promotes a family campout at ABATE Acres. This is a wonderful time that member’s children are invited to come to the land with their member parents or grandparents and enjoy what we have to offer on our own property. This year, the weekend set aside is August 8th, 9th and 10th. The campout is a bring your own everything event and although donations are never turned down, there is no cost to you. Plans generally include games, crafts and movies and the event is geared towards the family with family fun-type activities. Where else can your children or grandchildren ride their bikes on 80 acres of private land and feel what it’s like to have the wind in their hair?
No children? No problem. All members are still invited to attend and join in the group to help mentor our future ABATE members. I hear our Jr. Patriot Director is planning some fun activities, so be sure to mark your calendars and join us for a fun, family-oriented camping experience. The stars are very abundant on a clear night and are awesome to look at.
So, to answer your question Jeremy, this is not the time to have your family reunion with cousin Bertha and no exotic animals are allowed, although occasionally a family dog does tag along. This is a time for us to enjoy family life on our very own land and to show our young’uns and Junior Patriots what they have in store for them when they become full-fledged members.
On a side note, if your 93 family members all join ABATE of Wisconsin, they are more than welcome to use ABATE Acres like any other member is entitled to – but still no exotic animals.
