Hey Cuz:
I wanted to send a short letter and tell you and the others at ABATE how much fun we had at the
Family Camp Out. We had 6 different family groups camping with us. 38 adults and children signed
our informal “guest book,” including one ABATE member who just stopped out for a beverage and to
see what we were up to. Of the six camps, three had one or more motorcycles, making this a real
ABATE biker event. Of course, we had lots of games and prizes for the kids and a big group supper on
Saturday night.
The Family Camp Out is usually the 2nd weekend in August. Leave Sturgis a little early next year
and/or take a ride to ABATE Acres on Saturday or for the whole weekend. See how much fun you can
have with the younger members of the ABATE Family.

Dear Jas,
So glad you had a great time at ABATE Acres during the Annual Family Campout! This is a tradition that was started years ago and has thrived ever since. ABATE was fortunate enough to have Lisa Rhode spearhead the Family Campout and get it well organized so it could continue as an annual event. As a child, she was often included at biker events and she wanted to pass that tradition on to her three boys…that feeling that they are also “included” in ABATE activities. You will often see member’s children or grandchildren at this event as well as chili cook-offs, Board Meetings or even tagging along to the Capitol in Madison on Lobby Day watching and learning how to protect the things they feel strongly about.
We love to see our ABATE members enjoy the land that they are going to someday inherit. Yes, some of the child attendees of the Family Campout are members – even Lifetime Members. There’s nothing better than 80 acres, a whole lot of fresh air, gravel roads to ride your bikes on, movie nights and a campfire to share with your family. It’s fun to watch the young’un’s take over the place for a few days and bring back some memories. Hope more members take advantage of this weekend next year. Have kids and grandkids? Be sure to include them and come on up!
Carry On.
