Meetings: Third Sunday – See Text
Shannon CTO at 1 pm from Mel’s Foxx Den, Thorp. The Pledge and a moment of silence was led by Shannon. Thanks to Mel for hosting our meeting.
Shannon introduced Karen Hurd, our guest speaker. She is running for 69th Assembly on the Republican ballot. She represents 65 municipalities. She had been the 68th assembly person. Governor Evers changed the map layout of most of the districts. She had to move to take care of our area. Donna Rosar was 69th rep. She elected to stay in Marshfield and run for 70th district. Karen has introduced bills to help localities with transportation aid. Governor vetoed it. She talked of other battles she has had to deal with. She is 100% behind all of our issues that we are dealing with. Thank you, Karen, for speaking today.
Paul read the September minutes with no additions or corrections. Shannon thanked Pogie for his influence in past issues and future ones as well. Shannon appointed Kay in charge of products and Rainy, membership, Julie, Missy, Clark Co reps, Dave and Buffy to be our Taylor Co reps. Tom B Talked of the ever-increasing motorcycle deaths. We are at 92 this year, 96 same time last year. Helmets were discussed, quality, usage. Is that the answer? Alcohol is still a major factor. Preston tells us most helmets won’t stand up to crashes. The cost would be unaffordable. Karen Hurd would pursue this when in office if elected. Ride your own ride, be responsible. Tom says all accounts are current. Sweetheart and Think Spring raffle tickets are available now. Summer Hummer bands have a verbal contract for 2025. Land opening will be May 19-22. ABATE elections; Laurie Thompson, Krissy Bowe, elected to board at large. Cheryl Sheridan is our new Business Agent. Dave Dwyer retired. Our region 4C took first in raffle sales. (Applause)
Shannon believes the Federal government wants to introduce a helmet law. Preston agrees, saying 60% of city accidents are unavoidable. Most WI high schools do not have driver’s ed. It is farmed out. ABATE Share The Road classes try to impress upon the young drivers the importance of looking again for motorcycles. Rainy and Shannon recruited more members this last month. We welcome Josh, The Brickyard, and Apple Valley.
Shannon recalls words from past Senator Dave Zein at the capitol ride and of former Governor Tommy Thompson. He wished we had more people like them in office. FYI, our Capitol building is the tallest of all capitols in the USA.
Our February raffle consists of Milwaukee tool package, weed-eater, leaf blower, pole saw, and cash. Feb,22, draw date. The Fun Run committee will meet one hour early at Ripp’s before our meeting next month. Brad from 7B would like to be included in the Fun Run. Discussions included a gun raffle, car show and location.
May motorcycle awareness rallies, one on each end of the county? MMS by Joker and Julie to keep the car show on the docket. $25 limit for gifts at Xmas party.
Dates to remember; Nov.17 meeting Ripp’s in Riplinger. Dec.15 meeting One Shot in Owen, Xmas party to follow. Feb.7-9 Officers Training, Hotel Marshfield. Feb.22 District 4 Pool, Dart Tournament with Chili cook-off, raffle drawing, Hacienda.
