ABATE of WI 3C
In memory of Lyle Hagen (1948 – Sept 15, 2024) one of Region 3C’s lifelong members and also a previous commander of Shawano VFW Post #2723. Another biker on his last ride. RIP Lyle. (Mickelson funeral home)
Hi Everyone!
Our Shawano meeting was held at Harley’s Den on Saturday, Oct 5. We had 14 members in attendance and 1 guest from IOWA! Thanks everyone for coming to our Shawano meeting which started with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a moment of silence for those in harm’s way and in remembrance of Lyle Hagen.
Lynn reviewed the Sept 2024 treasury report. All is good in advance of our FYN run. Thank you, Lynn. We held a 50/50. We talked about FYNR volunteers and getting things ready (how many run sheets, raffle tix, door prizes, maps, etc.).
Get out and meet your legislators. Get info to determine who is the right candidate for you and VOTE on Nov. 5th.
We continued with our region 3C/2F nominations: No further nominations occurred. We are in need of a Menominee Area Rep if only as an ABATE region contact for the county. Final regional elections occurred at our October meeting. We have many continuing incumbents and two new. I want to first thank Mark Kasten who has been our Region Secretary for the last four or five years. Thank you for your service to our region. I want to thank Vauna Nelson for stepping up as Region Secretary and Troy Schultz as Area Rep for Shawano County. Yes. Wayne continues as Shawano County Area Rep. Please thank your member leaders as we go through the next 2 years.
Thank you, riders, volunteers, and the Breakaway Bar in Cloverleaf Lakes for making our 27th Annual Freeze Your Nuts Run successful with just over 100 riders Saturday, Oct. 12. We had a great run because of safe riders and great volunteers. I won’t say the weather cooperated as it did get a bit damp (not wet).
Thank you to Jessi, Mike, and Stephanie at the Breakaway Bar for being a great host with great customers learning about the ride and the reason for ABATE of WISCONSIN. Legislation, Safety, and Education. Thank you also for providing food for the riders at the end and your overall hospitality. We had three monetary winners and 5 other certificate winners. We also had winners of our door prize certificates and one lucky 50/50 winner.
Also, thank you to Scolly’s Hometown Bar, Hookers Bar & Grill, Landsharks (Cecil) and Spirits of Gillett for being a stop on the ride. We had riders go to Jenns Knaughty Pine (Angelica), Korths Badger Tap (Embarass), Micksters, Bamboo Bar (South Shore), Pulcifer Pub, Wayne’s Place (Bonduel) and Shipwrecked (Cecil) for the optional 6th stamp.
While we were enjoying the FYNR our other ABATE members were riding at the Capital and celebrating ABATE of Wisconsin’s 50th year. Good job and Congratulations everyone. This is something we all should be proud of!
SAFETY: Reviewed 2024 fatalities to date and Jimmy talked about low side and high side crashes after reviewing a crash on a downhill mountain turn. Low side crashes occur when the bike loses traction on the same side of the lean. High side crashes occur when the rear wheel loses traction then regains traction or when the front brake is locked in a turn sending the driver off the bike opposite of the lean.
The 2024 B2B Tour will end at Amy’s Roadhouse at our November meeting on the 2nd. The meeting starts at 1 and potluck after with B2B Tour ending with (3) monetary prizes and awards. Pauline will make Ham sandwiches with everyone contributing other salads, cheeses, and other items. Return your 2024 B2B books to any area rep or regional officer in advance of the November meeting to take part in the prizes if you can’t make the potluck. Get those last stamps NOW.
Think about what to bring for this year’s cookie raffle at our Shawano December meeting at the Bamboo Bar. Cookies, bars, and anything else right for Christmas.
Robin has posters for the 2025 Region 3C Walking Meat Raffle and meeting on Jan 11, 2025, in Antigo starting at Boettcher’s Bar and ending at Beer 30.
Pauline is looking into holding a CPR session at the end of January 2025. Watch for more details.
Thank you, Harley, Diane and staff, at Harleys Den for your hospitality and thank you for supporting ABATE of Wisconsin!
