May 2024

We had a couple great meetings in April. The 1st meeting was at Ethel’s Pub & Grill in Chilton. Thank you to Al and his team for hosting us. State Bank of Chilton bought a round of drinks to celebrate its donation of $1000 to ABATE of Wisconsin. Each year they donate money to organizations of their employee’s choice. Krissy happened to have the most volunteer hours for 2023 so she got 1st choice. The funds are earmarked for the Marlene Bautch Memorial Fund. Don’t forget to check with your employer. Many of them have programs that they’ll match your donation up to a certain value. Or they are more apt to sponsor an event if an employee volunteers at it. It’s a pretty easy way to raise some money.

At the meeting we recapped the March events. We had the Bar Olympics at Shadows in School Hill. Thank you to Dean and his team for a day of fun! We also hosted Road Guardians Accident Scene Management at Tanner’s Grill & Bar in Kimberly. Thank you, Travis, for hosting us. The tacos were delicious.

We discussed upcoming events in May. We will have a booth at a Suicide Awareness Event held at Manitowoc Expo Center on May 4th. The event has a show which welcomes tractors, motorcycles, cars, trucks, semis, and more. They also have live music in the afternoon. Registration is 8 am – noon. Then on May 18th we will be hosting our Get Your Wheels on Bike & Car Show at Smiling Moose Saloon & Grill in Osman. Registration is 9 – 12. Live music, great food, and raffles. Hope to see you there!

Summer Freedom books & signs are delivered to all the participating businesses. We have 109 stops in the book this year. There are no prizes for a full book, so don’t feel like you have to get all of them. Every book sale helps us and supports the businesses that support us. Please remember these places pay to get in the books and donate to our fundraising events each year. Please support them.

Lastly, we talked about state related information. Krissy has Summer Hummer Advance Tickets, Summer Cash Raffle Tickets, 50th Annual Meeting Raffle Tickets, and Mini Chopper Raffle Tickets. We also talked about the Insurance policies being considered by the board in conjunction with AIL. A few members were ok with it but acknowledged that the salespeople tend to be pretty persistent. The majority were against it and wanted to make sure the board knew that.

Our 2nd meeting of the month was held at Whistle Inn in Nichols. We apologize to those who weren’t able to hear. We’ll work to make sure that doesn’t happen in the future. It was great to see that a few more new faces made it to the meeting. We discussed the agenda above and Tom also talked about some of the regulations being pushed in California. A few members took a ride to some establishments that are ABATE supporters. We hope to continue to do that after future meetings.

May is going to be a busy month. We will have 2 meetings, 1 event, and will be at another event. We hope to see you! As the weather keeps improving, we hope you all can get out for a ride and some fresh air. It truly is some of the best therapy/medicine a person can get.

Ride Safe! – Krissy
