April 2024

Meetings: 1st WEDNESDAY at 6:30 pm –The Brat Stop, I94 & Hwy 50.

Hello again all. Our Soup/Dessert Cook -Off is scheduled for April 10th at The Beer Gardens in Kenosha. Have your entries hot and registered by 11:45 and we will get things rolling at Noon. Please come and join us.

After opening ceremonies at our last meeting, we discussed our Biker Day at the Capital. All of our legislative proposals this year, at their core, are about freedom of choice. I tried to mention that during the presentations of each issue we gave in Madison. I really think this registered with those who attended. I plan on at least one follow up visit this year to reinforce that concept. You can all help me, help you, by making a call or two yourselves? It’s campaign season again so please find an hour or so to help your favorite legislator with their efforts. It can and does make a difference.

We were joined again by some friends and fellow ABATE members from Illinois. Rich informed us of a helmet bill that is being floated in their legislature. After hearing his presentation, we stayed after the meeting and filled out witness slips opposing this bill. Of course, I needed help, but we got-er-done.

Fatalities were up 40% last year. Not good people. If you need to have an uncomfortable conversation with an impaired rider, please do it. If we cannot reduce these numbers by riding smarter, something will be done FOR and TO us, you can be sure. Our biggest issue is still single vehicle crashes. Please, Please, Please help your fellow riders to stop killing themselves. You will no doubt have a greater influence on your friends than a slogan or message from the government. They will do something if this trend does not improve, and I am sure we will not like their solution. Let’s fix this people while there is still time.

There are a lot of regional activities this spring. Take some time to travel a bit and check out these great opportunities to support ABATE in Wisconsin. Hope to see you soon at The Brat. 1st Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm.

Stay Free in the Wind.

Mike
