October 2020

Another year of training is in the books. It was a very successful year for Safe Rider. With so many training sites not doing any classes, we were full for all but one of the BRC sessions. The decision to hold classes this year proved to be the right choice. In spite of the fear over the virus, the students and coaches made adjustments and we had a very safe summer. Thanks to all of you. When the numbers are all in it will probably be one of our highest number of trained students in many years.

Unfortunately, the BRC2 classes are not as well received. The License Waiver classes are still well attended, but the Skills Practice are not. In the future we will probably cut the Skills class and focus more on the LW class. It is sad that with all of the ABATE members we have to draw from that there are not 24 members who feel it would benefit them to learn to ride better and be safer out on the road.

Planning for next season is already underway. We should have a schedule complete by February. The bikes will be hauled in for service this month. The range needs to be re-certified which requires photos and paperwork. The photo session is best done now rather than in February when everything is covered with snow.

For now, we are in the best time of year for riding. Last month we spent a week riding the Black Hills. Great roads and not too many tourists along with cooler weather made for a fine time. Wisconsin roads and fall weather are a good combination for planning weekend rides. Next month I will report on the ride to Indianapolis and Meeting of the Minds.

Until then, have fun and be careful. Deer are moving, but it is also bow season so if you hunt, good luck.

Ride Safe,

Gary
