Give’r Hell in ‘21

by Betty Roberge

The Summer Hummer Committee met just before the board meeting in November and has the following to report.

Plans are on track for the best ever fundraiser ABATE of Wisconsin has ever put on! The goal of the committee is to double our 2019 attendance and we need regional support to do so. The committee realizes that if we could get ½ of our own member to be there, we would have the best turnout we’ve ever had. Start talking up the Summer Hummer in your regions and amongst your friends and SAVE THE DATE: June 17, 18, and 19, 2021.

Besides our standby activities we are planning on a mini event on Saturday afternoon: The Taste of Summer at the Hummer. This mini event is a Beer, Wine, Cheese and Meat tasting that will take place under the Big Top. We are in the process of soliciting craft beer, wineries, cheese businesses and meat businesses to set up a booth for attendees to sample their wares for 2 – 3 hours. The Taste of Summer at the Hummer is bound to bring in some local folks to see what we are all about and to see what kind of a facility we have at ABATE Acres. Attendees coming in for the day will be required to purchase a Day Pass at the Gate. The price of entry to the “Tasting” portion of the Hummer is an additional $25. If you’re up to spending the afternoon “sampling” area beer, wine, cheeses, and meats, keep that in mind. This event will be a first for the area of Greenwood. Those that purchase a day pass on Saturday qualify to stay all day and are able to take advantage of our live music entertainment and overnight camping. Contact Rebel at (414) 640-6125 or ronhog1@aol.com for more information or to have him send out invites to businesses for the Taste.

Speaking of entertainment, we have a great lineup starting on Wednesday evening with a local band that will be playing for tips. Thursday evening presents the Back Alley Kings, Friday early band is Bobby Evans and late is Dave Larson’s band (a spin off band from the Sociables). Saturday’s early band is another local band from Hog Corners, then on the main stage The Richrath Project 3:13 who plays the music of REO Speedwagon. Check out their website, where they are promoting the Summer Hummer. This band travels throughout the US and should be a great addition to our already fabulous lineup.

Sponsorship brochures are available for distribution. Contact Bob Aprill at (920) 373-3668 or rwapril@bayland.net for more information or to have him send out a sponsorship brochure to a lead you may have for a Hummer Sponsor. Time is of the essence because we need to produce posters by mid-January for distribution at Officers Training in February.

Damon is working on getting a printable or download version of Summer Hummer Tickets for website purchasing. He is looking into enabling a QR code on the ticket for ease at gate entry. You can also watch for a separate Summer Hummer page that will list info pertaining to the Hummer.

Rebel has secured 8 billboards surrounding the ABATE Acre area for the months of April, May and June that will specifically promote the Summer Hummer, one of which is a lit billboard for evening viewing.

We want this fundraiser and membership drive – the Summer Hummer – to grow! Let us know if you would like to see something added or improved on. Contact Robert “Worm” Grasse at (920) 912-1789 or Robert.grasse59@gmail.com with your ideas.

It takes all members to raise a Hummer! Let’s Give’r Hell in ’21. ABATE is You!
