Auntie ABATE / “Cuz” Report

Hey Cuz:
I was trying to think of a topic for the Junior Patriots section of the July newsletter and was drawing a blank as usual. I started flipping through one of the news feeds and got my inspiration. The title of the article was “New York Times Editorial Board Member ‘Disturbed’ by Sight of American Flags.” The only reason my computer is still intact is because I would get fired for destroying company property.

I take pride in that I can usually effectively argue both sides of any topic. But I’m having a great deal of difficulty wrapping my head around how someone can have so much disrespect and hate for this country and still be living here. To me, the flag represents the freedom, liberty, and equality this country offers to all who live here. That includes people of all beliefs, bikers, people that hate bikers, the LGBT’s, the BLM’s, Christians, Muslims, donkeys, elephants, failed real estate developers turned reality TV stars, senile career politicians and everyone else. The flag also represents the service and sacrifice of my friends and relatives that have served this country in the armed forces. It is unconscionable to me to be “disturbed by” or otherwise disrespect our great nation’s flag.

Make sure your kids or those kids around you read this month’s Junior Patriots article or, better yet, read it with them. We need to make sure our kids have a sense of pride and belonging in this country, so they are not taken in by some whack job editor that is “disturbed” by the ideas of freedom and equality for all.

Dear JAS;
As with everything, education and respect begin at home. We all learn by example, and this is a good example of how people, especially young ‘uns, are influenced by those around them. Mama’s don’t let your babies grow up to be either cowboys or disrespectful, especially to our Country, our Flag and to those who Fight Everyday, for our freedoms.
