Summer Hummer Report

by Betty Roberge

The word of the month is Entertainment. According to membership requests, we are looking for not only bands to get our leather boots out on the dance floor, but musical entertainment in the way of a concert or show. So… the committee is out searching to do just that. By the time this newsletter hits your mailboxes, our bands should be booked for the 2022 Hummer. Once those contracts are signed, we can make the musical announcements. Stay tuned for that in November / December so you know what we have to look forward to and what songs you will need to practice in order to sing along from your seat.

Speaking of music and bands, we have doubled our musical budget over last year’s event. This increase should bring you more of what you are looking for. However, keep in mind that with a doubled musical budget comes the responsibility for us to increase our income. This comes in two forms.

#1 – Get everyone you know to come to the Hummer. It has been said that if we could bring even a third. of our own members to the event, we would be extremely successful. That means TALK IT UP. Talk it up at your meetings, talk it up at your events, talk it up in your neighborhoods, talk it up at your places of employment. Let’s get everyone up to the land and let’s have a great time

#2 – Help the Summer Hummer committee secure sponsors for the event. The committee challenged each region last month to solicit a minimum of $500 in sponsorships. Sponsorship money is important because we know in advance what kind of financing we have and what extras we can add to the Hummer to keep our members wanting to come back. Sponsorship money means bigger musical acts or entertainment options can be added. All sponsorship forms and payments are due by December 1st in order for the Hummer Committee to produce the flyers for dispersal at Officer’s Training in January. The next two months is crunch time to get those sponsorships going. So, Let’s get loud…and let’s get sponsors! Sponsorship forms will be going out to Regional Representatives at the Annual Meeting in Baraboo. If you can’t wait until then, check out page 9 of this newsletter for one. Be sure to pick up a few magnets to hand out too. They are a great “In your Face” tool that will continuously remind others about Hummer 2022.

#3 – The Summer Hummer belongs to you. Let’s work together to make this a premium event that everyone can’t wait to attend – Rain or Shine.

Remember: The Summer Hummer is the biggest fundraiser of the year for ABATE of WI. The more successful it is, the more resources we have to continue to do our important Legislative work that will keep motorcycling a viable mode of transportation both in Wisconsin and throughout the country. Because – Motorcycling Matters!
