“We believe Education, Training and Crash Prevention are the best ways to reduce injuries and fatalities caused by motorcycle / vehicle crashes on our nation’s highways.” – Steve Williams
First off… Thanks to all our STR Instructors and District Coordinators for attending our recent STR Program training. I appreciate the time you to attend, your commitment and positive impact you have in making our roadways safer!
As I have been filing my 2017 records away and organizing my 2018 record keeping I came across a Newsletter STE article I wrote in April 2015. This article is still timely and reinforces the Positive Impact our STR Instructors have on our ability to be safe when we ride. Here is that article.
STR Instructors Have a Positive Impact
There are obvious great aspects of leading STR training programs;
Sense of Accomplishment – Public speaking is not easy for some of us. In fact, it can be downright fearful. As a STR Instructor you have worked through those limitations and found that you can do it – and you are good at it. This is an positive impact on your own self confidence.
Contribution – We belong to the best SMRO in the country. You no longer just carry a card or just show up. Your volunteerism adds positive impact to the value of our STR Program, our Organization and we continue to be respected as being The Best.
Change Agent – You create a positive impact of us Motorcyclists on young, impressionable new drivers. We are no longer “just a biker”. In fact, many of our students tell us they want to learn to ride motorcycles themselves.
Personal Reward – Comes from the experiences of being a Teacher, especially when you “see the light bulb turn on” within in your audience. Also, I regularly hear other STR Instructors talk about their former students seeing them in public and thanking them for the teaching them about Motorcycle Awareness. You have a positive impact on your students’ lives.
These are just to name a few.
The greatest positive impact is; Every one of us who has every taught a STR Class can take pride in knowing we have contributed to the recent decline in motorcyclists’ fatalities. You save lives!
Each STR Instructor makes several significant contributions to fellow motorcycle riders and the general public.
It is easy to get involved and become an Instructor. If you have a reservation or two, I understand, I had some myself when I first considered becoming an instructor. We have a great support system with our existing District Leads & Instructors. You too will make a positive impact. We will help you get there…
I am looking forward to having you on board with us. -May 2015
If you would like to discuss how you can become involved (or more involved) in STR I will be at Officer’s Training and will make time to discuss with you.
One last thing…. STR Instructors who are attending Officer Training – if you need any supplies, handouts, computers, etc. please let me know no later than Thursday (2-8-18) and I will bring it with me.
See you at the next Big One…
