What exactly does that mean? Except for a minor detail that the builder needs to touch up at no extra cost to us, the building is up and ready for the Hummer. But just because the building is completed, our work is not done. As of May 21, 2023, we have raised a total of $122,284.51 of the total needed. What is left you ask? Well, as all projects go, there was an overrun of approximately $3,600. Why? The Land Committee felt that there should be fewer posts on the end of the building adjacent to the bar area. This required a stronger header to support the weight of the roof on that side. In addition, if you remember some of our winter weather during December and January, there were heavy snowstorms followed by warmer snow melting temperatures. This caused the holes that were dug and our cement footings that hold the posts level, to fill with water from those melting snows. These had to be pumped out, ergo an extra cost. Don’t get me wrong, we still came in under the budget that was approved by the BOD, but it was more than the original bid and more than we expected to have to ultimately fundraise.
So where does that leave us? We still need to raise $22,558.93 to pay for the project in full. This total includes the building of the Cornerstone Wall which we have been selling bricks for. We expect that by the time we build the wall, we would have sold better than 100 bricks in total.
How do we do it?…..Continue to Buy Bricks. Continue to Drop your Change. Continue to fundraise with the Pavilion in mind. For example, if your region has not held its once a year charitable donation event consider holding a Regional Charitable Event that benefits the Pavilion (Charity does begin at home.)
And encourage your members to buy specific items that are earmarked for the Pavilion Fund. What you say? During the Hummer the fundraising committee will be selling and raffling off 2 specific items whose profits will benefit the Pavilion. On sale will be a 30 oz. Steel mug with a screw on cap and showcasing our “Raisin’ the Roof” logo. If you’ve ever used a YETI mug, this is very similar to those. The second item offered is a 5-gallon galvanized bucket that also displays the “Raisin’ the Roof” logo on it. There will be a special Hummer bar deal that goes along with the purchase of the bucket. If you present your bucket at the bar, you will be entitled to purchase 6 beers for the price of 5. What a deal!! Use your bucket all weekend long. Think of the steps you’ll save while watching bike games, beer bobbing, barstool racing, and the bands. But more than that, I see these buckets being used as flower planters, as gift baskets, even filled with sand to extinguish cigarettes or to place citronella candles in while camping. These items will be available for purchase in the bar area all weekend long.
Can’t wait for you to see that Pavilion. ABATE does good work in planning for permanency and the future.
Thank you all for your efforts that make this project happen and remember, ABATE IS YOU!
