I’ve always said the Hummer is much more than a party. It’s a membership opportunity and I wasn’t disappointed this year. One of the reasons I work at the gate is to meet our current members and get to know the new members that sign up at the gate. One new member lives near Greenwood and decided to drive over and see what we are all about. After hearing about us, she joined and doesn’t even ride a bike. The Summer Hummer seems to be when many members renew their memberships. When they come to the land, it must be a reminder to pay their dues.

I’m sure many of you are out every day or at least every weekend riding. It’s a good time to remember to Ride Your Own Ride. The statistics are stacking up against us so far this year and that isn’t good. While you’re out there riding, I hope you carry a trifold membership form or two. When you meet another biker on the road be sure to ask if they are a member of an SMRO. If not, ask them to join us. Another tool we have in our toolbox is our “Elevator Speech” handout. I call it our elevator speech because when you meet someone, 3 minutes is about all the time you get to explain what we are about and what we do. The same time frame as an elevator ride. If you don’t have any of these handouts, be sure to pick them up at our next state meeting, BOD meeting, or call Marie and she can get you some.

Next month our board meeting is at Trail’s End in Fairchild. Although we will mainly have ABATE members camping there, it could be another opportunity at gaining new members. Did you get yours? Now’s your chance.
