Rain…Rain…Then More Rain!

by Betty Roberge

You just can’t control the weather. Did it have an impact on the Hummer? Maybe, but everyone that was there sure had a good time. What was most noticeable was that our attendees spent a lot of time TOGETHER in the bar area or under the Pavilion. Why? Because it was too wet and muddy to have a fire at their individual campsites. That meant that we could have fun the old-fashioned way with face-to-face interactions. So, was the rain a detriment? Maybe not. It might have been the driving force that mixed us up a bit like it used to be before all the modern conveniences set in.

A few things were rained out this year….The Adventure ride on Friday morning, the Bike Games on Friday afternoon and Beer Bobbing which meant our members had to find another way to stay entertained. Mud Wrestling anyone? I heard some of that was taking place near the back forty.

The bands didn’t disappoint. Sammy Ray was a big hit again like last year. She sure has a good set of pipes and was able to get the crowd going on Thursday night. They seem to want her back. And Gregg Hall and his acoustical guitar had quite a few people listening to his music during the bike show and the Taste of Summer at the Hummer.

No matter what type of music you like, we seemed to have a good variety to keep people happy.

One of the best things that seemed to take off this year was the Regional campsite contest. Two regions were neck and neck with Region 1H taking first place and Region 7B coming in a close second. IH though, outdid themselves with their “Mash” theme. Every member took on a part –even someone portraying Klinger! What a sight! The region not only dressed the part, they played the part with a working still and a military jeep on site. Was Hot Lips available to offer you a Jello filled syringe? I’ll never tell. You can’t tell me bikers don’t go all out and know how to have a good time! It will be hard to beat the Mash theme for sure.

Thanks to all the members that helped out to make the Hummer the success that it was. Your hard work does not go unnoticed and is very much appreciated. We know what you did, and we know who you are. Thank You!

Our July committee meeting prior to the BOD meeting at Trail’s end will give you a chance to let us know what worked and what didn’t. What improvements you’d like to see and what we can let go by the wayside. It’s an opportunity for you to give us your feedback. If you can’t make it to the committee meeting, send us an email with your thoughts – your after-action report.

and…Mud.

Until we meet again at next year’s Hummer.
