One of the best ways to learn is through experience. That’s why after action reports are so important. They give the people involved in putting an event together the information they need to change and improve an event, In our case, the Summer Hummer.
Of course, you can’t do anything about the weather but the general consensus of the Summer Hummer committee members and other members that attended our July meeting was that even though it rained, it seemed to liven up our crowd and it was a lot of fun. By that I mean that members and guests were not so inclined to stay at their campers around their own firepits. They wandered up to the main stage under the pavilion and in the bar area to enjoy the camaraderie of each other’s company.
Each area lead (Gate, Bar Chips, Bar, Entertainment, Cleaning crew, Land crew, Advertising, First Aid, etc.) was charged with coming up with a list of things they would like to see improved in 2025. If any member has suggestions, please forward them to us. It’s better to improve something or try something new rather than to complain about inefficiencies later. This is one of our biggest fundraisers, but more than that it’s party where we can all let our hair down and have a good time on our own ABATE land.
It’s never too soon to start planning and actually it takes a full year to get the Hummer up and running. Not to mention that it may take that long to get the land back in shape after all our June rain. There are, after all, just a few ruts that need filling in.
Until we meet again at next year’s Hummer.
