And We’re Off!

by Betty Roberge

Everything Summer Hummer is starting to gear up to full speed. Final details are being planned. Bands are booked. Summer Hummer Advanced Tickets are here for pick up at Officer’s Training. Posters have been printed. Sponsorships are coming in. Golf Carts and Porta Potties are ordered. Food, vendor, and Taste of Summer invitations are out in the mail. Area Coordinators are set. Whew! Now all we need is attendees. I want to call your attention to the aerial photo on page 20. Do our grounds look full? I think not. Shame on us. We are ABATE of Wisconsin and can do much better than that. Let’s get our members there. They surely won’t be disappointed because we have a great event and an even better time putting it on.

By the time this comes out we should have all of our T-shirt ideas in to vote on for the 2024 Hummer T-shirt Design. Once that is decided look for an order form in future issues of the newsletter to order yours. Remember that these are pre-ordered only and can be picked up at the Summer Hummer to save yourself some postage costs.

Please look over the areas listed below and contact the coordinators to volunteer for a few hours during the Hummer. Many hands make small work and coordinators can certainly use your help to fill their shifts. We especially are looking for those that are medically trained and can help out in First Aid, as that department is on call 24 hours a day.

While this is not the 50th Anniversary of the Summer Hummer itself (it took us a few years to get what turned into the Hummer going,) it IS the 50th Anniversary of ABATE of Wisconsin. Hopefully, we will have some regions that will reflect that idea in their Regional Theme Contest that is judged on Saturday at the Hummer. This is always a good time and anyone who’s been at the Hummer looks forward to the costuming that our regions come up with.
