Dear Cuz;
Had the opportunity to go to the Junior Patriot event in August – the Family Campout they called it. Was impressed. How can I get more involved?
Volunteer Gene Raising Its Head Again
Dear Gene,
Well, so glad you asked. If you noticed there were 8-10 volunteers on hand that did a lot of work to put on that event for our Junior Patriots – or future ABATE of Wisconsin members. They can always use help. It begins by getting the members in your region to sponsor a Junior Patriot because that is the future of ABATE and if we start them early, they will grow into exemplary members, having the background starting from a young age. They also will inherit ABATE Acres as a future member and that’s totally awesome!
To give you a quick rundown of what took place that weekend let’s start with the activities. Rock painting, Ring Toss, Velcro Darts, Marshmallow Golf, Corn Roast and Potluck Dinner, Slip and Slide, Pick a Duck, Movie Party and a chance to make your own Ice Cream Sundae. There was also Bike Riding, Dirt Bike Riding, Electric Scooter Riding, and last, but not least, a spectacular fireworks show to cap it all off on Saturday night, and I mean SPECTACULAR!
There were Little Kids, Little Kids everywhere. Middle sized Kids everywhere. And a few high school kids interspersed and joining in the fun, not to mention all the family dogs. There were even adults that came without kids. That should tell you how much the Family Campout is enjoyed.
Next year I hear there may be a Saturday morning pancake breakfast for the kiddos. Might be a good way to get your feet wet.
So, If you really want to help out, reach out to John Stumpner and volunteer to spend the weekend with him and the kids. It’s very rewarding and a heck of a lot of fun!
Your ever loving “Cuz”
