I feel a renewed sense of gratitude for belonging to an organization like ABATE of Wisconsin. Where else are you able to find such selfless volunteers who work for the benefit of all our members? I can’t tell you what a warm fuzzy feeling I get to know that when I need help, all I have to do is ask. And actually, I don’t even have to ask because the help comes without asking for it. I witnessed that time and time again this past weekend at the Summer Hummer. We had help at the gate…it’s a busy area with a lot of activity going on at times and a lot of money exchanging hands, yet without even signing up for shifts people stepped up and stepped in and we had help. We had help during the “Taste” – setting up tables, carrying wine and beer, bringing ice, pouring samples, cutting cheese and tearing down again. Dawn & I had help. Bystanders that just saw the need and moved in without question or complaint.
I saw it over and over again, whether it be selling 50/50’s (Krissy you and John make a great team), Pulling bikes, vans, campers, etc. out of the mud (what would we do without you, Worm) – or delivering wood, picnic tables, and fire rings. Hard jobs done without question from people who continuously saw the need. Officers, old members, new members, all working together.
These people are my team. These people are my friends. These people are my people. These people are my family.
At some point in your lives I hope you have the opportunity to experience the same feeling of belonging and brotherhood. No questions asked.
Betty
