Business Agent Report

by Jim Moeckler

Now that the weather is getting warmer, I’m thinking of getting my bike out of storage. I noticed that my brake cable from my handbrake snapped off. It was fine when I put the bike away for the winter. Is this something that I might be able to claim on my insurance and have it repaired?

The answer to this is no.

Wear and tear is not a covered loss on your cycle insurance policy.  However, if your cable had snapped while you were riding and the bike was disabled or not safe to operate, you would be able to use your towing or roadside service coverage on your policy to get the bike home or into a repair shop for repairs.

You should also be able to use your towing and road service to have the bike taken to a repair shop even if it’s just sitting in your garage disabled.
