Here’s an idea that one of the regions in my district is doing to attempt to get their expired members back into an active ABATE of WI status. They are getting together to have an expired members “party.” By that I mean they are planning on getting together in a member’s garage and reviewing the expired members list. If any members present personally know anyone on the expired list, they will contact them. Those that aren’t known will be receiving a post card asking why they left and what the region can do to get them back. This “party” is really a post card writing campaign so the region will reach everyone on their expired members list. I would not be surprised if a few adult beverages and some snacks are involved so they have a little fun along the way. This is a great reason to get together, have some fun, and work at getting those members back. The best way of getting an expired member back is by personal contact. Any regional rep his able to ask Marie for an expired members list for their region. These lists are mailed, not emailed, to the regional rep for security reasons. It will take a few days for the lists to be generated and mailed to you, so plan ahead if you are going to give this a try and remember to keep it fun so you will have more of your members willing to help.
Regional meetings are also a great time to recruit new members. If you know of someone that has an interest in motorcycles, invite them to your meeting. If you have a well-structured meeting, I bet they will become interested and maybe become a new member. It’s important that you have an agenda to follow and that you stick to motorcycle issues. Don’t get caught up in anyone’s individual “drama” or personal agenda. If we are professional and know about our issues, people will be interested in learning more and will attend your meetings.
Other events like Chili-Cook-Offs are also good opportunities to bring in new members. Encourage the general public to attend and learn about ABATE of WI in an informal setting. You will be surprised what those little contacts can do to bring in new members.
That’s it for now. Remember our goal this year (again) is for each member to bring in one member. Can we do it? Of course we can. I have faith in us.
