By now I’m sure all of you are aware of the challenges of riding on the road in today’s world. Technology is not always a bad thing but sometimes I think it might be misdirected to make us believe it is always good for us. The fact that we are sharing the road with self-driving cars that have not been properly tested is alarming to me.
The other day I saw a commercial on tv showing a mother taking her kids to soccer practice, then to a swim meet, then to school. The commercial said this woman was always late for each event and implied that if she bought this particular car with a turbo charger, she could drive faster and never be late again. I don’t know about you, but I think that is just crazy. To be politically correct, I did not mention the name of the car and also the woman could have just as easily been a man.
We are starting to go from summer to winter activities in our regions. Don’t get me wrong, some of the best riding weather is here, but soon we will be turning to inside activities. What better time to start thinking about how we can use these events to encourage people to join ABATE. Be sure to keep a membership form on hand and talk us up. Numbers help us in our fight to keep us riding free, so be sure to get yours.
The next big event for us is the Annual Meeting next month in Stevens Point. All the details are in this newsletter. I encourage you to attend. It is a great opportunity to get information first-hand and you can talk to the people you have chosen to run this organization face-to-face. I hope to see you there.
Ride Safe, Ride Free, Ride with ABATE.
