MRF Rep Report

At the time of this writing, we are gearing up for Meeting of the Minds in St. Louis. This is the annual national conference where we set the Legislative Agenda for the upcoming year, and we attend a multitude of inspirational and educational seminars. We have four members from ABATE of WI that will be presenting various topics at the MOTM as well.

Watch the November newsletter and our Facebook page to see how much fun we have, what we all learn, and how much hardware ABATE of WI brings home from the awards banquet at Meeting of the Minds. We truly are one of the best SMROs in the country!

We are seeking several Assistant State Reps in the Northwoods and Western areas of the state. The primary roles of an ASR are to promote the organization through membership drives and share information about the MRF. We encourage you to attend fun events like the Tomahawk Fall Ride and conferences like STEAM and Meeting of the Minds. You can reach out to me via text, phone, or email if you are interested in taking your membership to the next level or have any questions. My contact info is on the back page of this newsletter.

Friday, the 13th, hit hard for me this September. Literally. While riding in the beautiful Northwoods during the Tomahawk Fall Ride, I kicked up a rock and punctured a hole in the oil pan of my bike. Fortunately, the oil pan appears to be the only thing damaged and not too difficult to replace.

It’s unfortunate times like these that we are reminded of the strength of brotherhood in the biker community. While I was still standing there watching the oil drain into the dirt, a man I’d never met before walked right up and said, “let me unload my race bike from the trailer and I’ll give you and your bike a ride back to your camp”. Turns out this race bike was a 1916 Harley Model J that he takes to the Bonneville salt flats every year. The man loved talking about his bike but not himself. He prefers the solidarity and anonymity of the Northwoods. I can’t say I blame him. But I sure am grateful that Mister E appeared that Friday the 13th to help a fellow biker out. Bikers are never strangers; just friends you haven’t met yet.

I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to my dear group of friends that I was riding with that weekend that also helped us load and unload the bike, haul things home for us, let me hitch hike home with them, and even taught me how to ride “bitch” on the back of my man’s bike the last day! Thank you all!

As always, stay vigilant, my friends!
