ABATE of WI is excited to welcome LeeAnn Ruegg to our team of Assistant Reps! LeeAnn has over 40 years of riding experience, along with various roles in leadership and a strong passion for motorcyclist rights. Welcome LeeAnn!
At our most recent Team ABATE meeting, we discussed ways to increase membership to the IMA. Getting independent aftermarket shops and bike builders informed is crucial to us. We need them to stay in business. We need to work together. We have new flyers available for distribution, plus you can go directly to their website, www.imamembers.org to sign up yourself or your favorite shop or bike builder. As we work on bill drafts for Right to Repair, protecting the internal combustion engine, and protecting our fuel source, those topics are the life blood of the independent shops and builders.
We are pleased to report that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has withdrawn its proposed electric motorcycle mandate. After delaying hearings twice, they have finally listened to the bikers and the manufacturers who have said that the demand just isn’t there. We’re excited to see that our federal lobbyist, Rocky Fox, was quoted in an article by PoliticoPro, saying, “Perhaps they’re taking a step back to revisit because the landscape has shifted, maybe not in California, but in Washington, D.C.”. The article also states that President-elect Donald Trump has promised to revoke the California air quality rules that require car, truck and train manufacturers to phase out fossil fuel models. A win for internal combustion engines!
We are continuing to search for Assistant State Reps to grow our team, particularly in the northwest part of the state. If you are interested in helping out, reach out to myself or one of the Assistant Reps.
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone in-person at Officer’s Training. We will have a table set up with information about the MRF and IMA, along with membership applications and some raffles. See you then!
The dates for the major events in 2025 are as follows:
April 4-5, Heartland S.T.E.A.M. in Bettendorf, IA
May 19-20, Bikers in the Beltway, Washington, D.C.
