Today Governor Evers vetoed the paddlewheel raffle bill (SB 43). This bill would have allowed groups to use a paddlewheel raffle as a means to raise money for their organizations. Many religious organizations, as well as civic groups and others have been using paddlewheels for years to hold quick, small dollar fundraisers to help them support their efforts. Recently the State Gaming Commissioner has been cracking down on organizations that hold similar raffles, even with a Class B raffle license.
ABATE of Wisconsin, and the motorcyclists in the State of Wisconsin, would like to express our disappointment in this decision as it effects many groups. We would like to thank Senator Jacque and Representative Murphy for bringing this bill forward and working to get it passed unanimously in both the State Senate and the Assembly.
