The Wall, The Wall, The Wall. Is finally coming together. Huge Thanks go out to Craft Masonry of Slinger, WI., and ABATE Region 1H members for giving up your time and dedicating a full weekend to this project. If you’re ever in need of masonry work, pay it forward and give them a call. You won’t be disappointed. We discovered the week before construction that we needed to order blank bricks for the top of the wall. It’s nice to be able to work with Wisconsin companies like That’s My Brick, who were able to get them shipped in time for construction. Unfortunately, 3 of the bricks cracked during shipping, so the final touches won’t be made until spring. The broken bricks weren’t the only reason for holding up a finished wall, though. The top of the wall would be too heavy to place on top of bricks that didn’t have cured mortar. So, the wall cap, the broken bricks, and the wording on the wall will be a weekend project in the spring. I can say that it looks great and the members that took advantage of having their names placed on a permanent fixture at ABATE Acres will be proud to see the outcome.

Be sure to plan on stopping up and taking a look when you can. We can accomplish great things when we work together.

According to Laurie, the books show that we need to raise an additional $2,783.36 to complete funding of the building – $141,843.44, and the wall – $3,468.14. There will be a few more minor expenses regarding the wall such as the lettering saying ABATE Pavilion Donors and we have payment of two final brick orders to make yet. So, the total numbers aren’t in yet. Keep fundraising and buying Pavilion Buckets and Mugs to help us along.
