Update on the Pavilion Project

At May’s BOD meeting the Land Committee made a formal proposal presentation to the board for approval to construct a Pavilion at ABATE Acres that will take the place of the big tent rental during the Summer Hummer and could be used for covered equipment storage during the winter months. The idea of renting covered storage to members with boats or camper/rvs was mentioned and may become available in the future which would add to ABATE of WI income. Included in the proposal was a rough draft of what the building would look like, where it would be placed, and an estimate of the final building costs. Two bids have been submitted to date, and the land committee is seeking a third for comparison before a contractor is awarded the project. After a round of questions, the Board of Directors approved the proposal so construction could begin anytime after the Hummer but before winter sets in. It was decided that once the contractor is chosen, building materials will be purchased and stored at ABATE Acres close to where the building will go up and tarped until construction could start. This decision was made to prevent ABATE from having to absorb any additional rise in the cost of the building materials itself. That is the most volatile or changing cost of the building in the current market. One of the decisions that was approved was how we would fund the project. The funding will come from: #1. Previous and future donations specific to the Pavilion; #2. matching funds; #3. Line of credit; and #4. Secured loan. The line of credit and secured loan, if used, will be paid back by new pavilion donations until it is paid in full. The total cost of the building is not to exceed $150.000. This total includes a 7% contingency amount in the event prices change before the building is actually constructed.

Matching Funds Offer: During the process of putting this proposal together, the land committee received another matching funds challenge. This time from Hupy & Abraham, SC. Their corporation has offered to match up to $35,000 if ABATE will raise another $35,000 for this project – for a combined total of $70,000. This new match began on April 1st. With this very generous offer, the Land Committee feels that we have the potential to pay the cost of the Pavilion entirely by the end of 2022.

….so keep dropping your change. Every penny counts.

ABATE of Wisconsin Announces the Pavilion “Cornerstone” Project

Hupy & Abraham, SC has offered ABATE of WI up to $35,000 in matching funds to help finance a good portion of the balance needed to construct the permanent Pavilion at ABATE Acres. ABATE of WI needs to raise an additional $35,000 to qualify for the matching funds – for a combined total of $70,000. In order to help ABATE of Wisconsin earn the $35,000 to be eligible to receive Hupy & Abraham’s match, we are offering members and friends an opportunity to become part of a permanent fixture at our land.

A “Cornerstone” Brick wall will be constructed next to the Pavilion that will be made up of individual engraved bricks. Members may purchase these bricks, engraved with their name, for a $300 donation.

Past Donations: Anyone who has made a previous donation to the Pavilion Fund project since its inception in the spring of 2021, will have the option of paying the difference between what they originally donated and the cost of a brick, to make the $300 mark. This additional donation would then entitle them to an engraved brick and inclusion on the wall. Those who previously made a donation that exceeded the $300 mark will be notified to determine if they desire to have an engraved brick in their name included in the “Cornerstone” project.

Leave your footprint at ABATE Acres by becoming a permanent addition or “Cornerstone” of ABATE Acres. Help us raise the funds necessary for the Hupy and Abraham $35,000 fund match. Let future generations of ABATE of Wisconsin know that they have a strong foundation of members to build on with ABATE of Wisconsin. (See page 3 of this newsletter for your order form.)
