It’s hard to believe, but we are already in full swing planning for the 2025 Summer Hummer. The first thing on our agenda is the budget. This is always first, because we need to book bands now and we need to know how much money is in our budget to do so. Musical entertainment is one of our largest expenses, so we pay very close attention to those band quotes and contracts.
We more than likely won’t get our budget approved until September/October, but we need all of our ducks in a row to get it approved. Of course, the main focus for coming up with a budget is the income and expenses from the 2024 event because that is how we gauge how much we can afford to spend vs how much we expect to earn. This is a fundraiser after all, and the Board of Directors will only approve funds if we can assure them that we will show a profit for our efforts. How does this happen? By having our members advertise for us via word of mouth and inviting everyone they know to join us next June. The more attendees, the bigger our profits and the happier the board will be. So, that’s your assignment for the year. Let everyone know what a good time they can have by showing up. This is the prime event that we put on that showcases our land and what we have to offer. Another great way to gain membership besides having fun. We did make a good profit in 2024, but there is always room for improvement and growth. It takes all of us to make this happen.
Another component that goes into our budget process is what we are going to offer the people that come to the Hummer. This is where you can have a voice. If you have suggestions or ideas to improve our efforts, let us know now. If changes are going to be made, we need to have those changes appear in our budget and like I said, we are budgeting right now for 2025. Contact Worm or Betty with ideas or suggestions. Is there a specific group you would like to see play at the Hummer or do you have any suggestions for bringing in merchandise or food vendors? Is there anything specific you would like to see in the way of entertainment? Speak now or forever hold your peace.
So, we all have our work cut out for us. Budgeting is foremost, making suggestions for improvement, and last but not least, word of mouth advertising. Hope to hear from you soon.
Until next year’s Hummer.
