We held a very engaged Summer Hummer committee meeting just prior to the Board of Director’s meeting in September. Rebel presented some of his ideas and we hashed out a new pricing system mostly due to our membership dues increase that occurred in 2019 and wanting to be sure that non-member event pricing followed suit.
I am really excited about the potential that this fundraiser is showing and where the Hummer is going to take us over the next few years. While we are still being a little conservative, the general consensus is “Go Big or Go Home”. Our initial goal is to at least double our attendance, increase the number of vendors that set up shop, provide more well-known bands or cover bands, and to have a heck of a good time. All of this will be in addition to the “Taste of Hummer” that was postponed from 2020 when COVID raised its ugly head.
If you recall, “The Taste of Summer at the Hummer” that ABATE is offering, will be a Wine, Beer, Cheese and Meat tasting on Saturday during the Hummer weekend. This type of event is extremely popular and will encourage locals to not only participate in the tasting, but to stay and enjoy the Saturday Night band, giving them a chance to experience the Hummer firsthand. If this generates interest among the locals, they are sure to invite their friends next year, and that’s not a bad thing. Of course, this means we will need plenty of volunteers to help make the event successful, so make a commitment, if you can, to help out that weekend.
The easiest way we can be successful with this event is to make sure our own members plan on attending. Let’s aim for good representation from every region, and let’s set a goal of having 20% of our membership bring one friend along and make the 2021 Hummer the BEST Hummer ever. In your travels throughout the state, talk about the event and share your past Hummer experiences. Ever seen a guy in a man-kini?…or a birthday 43 BxxB salute? Try figuring that one out. Mind boggling.
Stay tuned for more details as they are ironed out, and if you know of someone who would like to be a sponsor, let the committee know. We are working hard behind the scenes to secure the funding to carry out our plans and sponsorship is a big part of our success. But mostly, our success starts with YOU – our members.
