Auntie ABATE / “Cuz” Report

Your favorite “Cuz” took some time off from her column this month and had a chance to go to Officer’s Training 2020. Without a doubt, our organization is premium. There are a lot of people making things happen behind the scenes, that until you get more involved either on a regional or on a statewide level, most members don’t even think about. So, kudos to our officers for doing such a great job in keeping ABATE of Wisconsin the best SMRO (State Motorcycle Rights Organization) in this great country of ours.

That having been said, one thing sticks in my craw. With all the great work that we do in Madison and in Washington – and believe you, me there is a lot of detail work and nit picking that goes into a legislative package – because the wording has to be just right (so we don’t have to go back and fix it), I was shocked to hear from Steve, our Legislative Committee Chair, that there are only a hand full of members out of our thousands that actually answer ABATE’s Call to Actions. This holds true for MRF Call to Actions, too. It is time for us to realize that the hard work of a few won’t get the job done and we all have to take a pro-active stand if we want to accomplish our goals and keep our freedom of the road and lifestyle in check. I for one, will be answering calls to action. It is not only the legislation that our representatives look at, but the number of constituents that are behind a piece of legislation that may make a difference as to whether they sign on or how they vote on laws that will affect motorcyclists and motorcycling. We joined this organization because we believe in freedom and in choice. Let’s do our part to keep motorcycling viable in our state and country.

One other thing. I did have the opportunity to relax and network a little with friends after the Saturday night auction. Here’s to you, Auntie ABATE for giving me the foundation I needed to carry on!
