You might think I sound like a broken record, but I fully believe that people need to hear things at least 3 times before things fully sink in… some of you heard it straight from the horse’s mouth at Officer’s Training and some of you are reading it here (for the second time).
Effective March 1, 2020: 25% of the net proceeds from any regional designated event will be sent to the State Treasurer to cover possible tax liabilities arising from the income earned from the event. All regions are allowed to host one regional designated event per year with the profit being given to an individual, an outside organization, or an internal division of ABATE of WI. Although we promote community involvement and giving to charitable organizations, most members are not aware that ABATE pays income tax on the monies that come in from these events that then go out to an outside organization. In some cases, the event ends up as a loss for ABATE because 100% of the profit goes outside of our organization, but yet we have to pay income tax on the money that was raised. We discussed this in greater detail at Officer’s Training and sent everyone home with updates for their Policy & Procedures Manual (aka Redbook).
Another Officer’s Training is in the books. Thank you for taking time away from your families and battling the storm on Sunday – I do believe that everyone should have walked away with a new idea, a new friend and at the very least a new Redbook. The sessions were well attended, and I heard a lot of good ideas being shared between regions. An after-action report was sent out to District Directors, so I hope that everyone in attendance had a chance to provide some feedback.
RAFFLE LICENSES – If you have not sent me a copy of your class A or class B license, please send me an email or send a copy through USPS. I can help with questions or if you just need clarification on what is needed for each type of raffle. In this case, it is not acceptable to beg for forgiveness after the fact….
CONGRATULATIONS to the Sweetheart Raffle Winners: 1st ($1000) – Dale Swanson-Bristol, WI; 2nd ($500) – Cyril Warras-Waukesha, WI; 3rd ($250) – Tom Babbitt-Stanley, WI. Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraiser.
SUMMER cash raffle tickets were signed out to regions at Officer’s Training – tickets are not available through the State Office, or Ken Nelson, or Laurie Thompson. They have all been signed out! Visit a regional meeting or event and buy one (or 10) before they are gone! $20 per ticket, only 500 sold! $5700 total payout with the drawing on June 20 during the Summer Hummer at ABATE Acres. As always, you need not be present to win.
